As
the author of the Doc Ford novels, I'd like to thank you for taking
the time to visit this site. Come on in, roam around (just click
on the icons above this message), open a beverage, and hang out
at the marina with Mack and Jeth and the local cast of liveaboards.

For
the 13 years I was a fishing guide at Tarpon Bay on Sanibel, our
small marina community loved company. The same is true at Dinkin's
Bay. One of the questions most commonly asked of me is: "Do
the characters in your books really exist?" Well...I know
too many attorneys to reply to that...but I will tell you that,
like Ford, I have a passionate interest in biology and baseball
( I still play ... our team, Bartley's Bombers, won the 1999 Roy
Hobbs 40AAA Championship! ) Unfortunately for me, that's where
all comparisons with Doc Ford end -- he's much smarter, tougher
and more articulate than I.
Also,
at Tarpon Bay Marina, Mack was the owner/operator; Nick (a close
friend and very smart man) was an extremely successful guide despite
his stuttering problem; my buddy Graeme lived aboard a 35-foot
Morgan sailboat called No Mas and kept it anchored just off the
narrow channel that led into the marina. No Mas was a pleasant
place to sit and have a beer after a long day on the water...as
was Tarpon Bay Marina itself.
Does
the community of Dinkin's Bay really exist? Read the books and
decide for yourselves...and come back soon.
