THE MISSING CHAPTER

(Do not read unless your’ve finished DEEP SHADOW)

While on the March 2014 signing tour for BONE DEEP, a number of people asked questions about the Doc Ford novel, DEEP SHADOW (“A terrifying book,” one reader said.  And I agree.)  As I told several of these nice people, one of my favorite chapters from DEEP SHADOW had been omitted -- intentionally.  My editor, Neil Nyren and I decided the chapter reveled too much about the mysterious reptile that inhabited the lake, so I removed it.  But, as I told these nice people, it remains one of my favorite chapter segments.  So I promised several I would post the missing chapter here.  If you have read DEEP SHADOW, I think you will enjoy it.  If you have not read DEEP SHADOW, I suggest you postpone.  Whatever your decision, click the following to read the missing chapter segment:  DEEP SHADOW MISSING CHAPTER

“White weaves in and out of two mysteries, telling the story with the same tight, vivid prose his fans have come to expect. Another strong addition to one of crime fiction’s most consistent series.” Associated Press on Night Moves
HAUNTED
Available August, 2014
Third in the Hannah Smith Series

Randy says: “Hannah’s second book, DECEIVED, won the Gold Medal for Florida Fiction, and HAUNTED tops that book in every category. HAUNTED is the best thriller I have ever written. Period.”
Released: AUGUST 2014. 384 p. Putnam, hardcover, $26.95. (9780399158131).

Praise for Deceived:
“Deceived twists and turns as often as Hannah’s boat navigates the hidden inlets and shoals of the Gulf while she tries to avoid the waves of human treachery. Randy Wayne White has made Florida’s Gulf Coast an iconic part of crime fiction with his Doc Ford novels -- and Deceived proves Hannah has found her place in crime fiction, too.”
                                                  -- South Florida Sun-Sentinel
Hannah Smith returns in the electrifying new adventure in the New York Times-bestselling series from the author of the Doc Ford novels.

The house is historic, some say haunted. It is also slated to be razed and replaced by condos, unless Hannah Smith can do something about it. She’s been hired by a wealthy Palm Beach widow to prove that the house’s seller didn’t disclose everything he knew about the place when he unloaded it, including its role in a bloody Civil War skirmish (in which Hannah’s distant journal-keeping great uncle had a part), and the suicides -- or was it murders? -- of two previous owners.
Hannah sees it as a win-win opportunity: She can stop the condo project while tracking her family history. She doesn’t believe in ghosts anyway. But some things are more dangerous than ghosts. Among them, as she will learn, perhaps fatally, is human obsession.
Randy Wayne White is the author of twenty-one Doc Ford novels, most recently Bone Deep and Night Moves; the Hannah Smith novels Gone and Deceived; and four collections of nonfiction. He lives on Sanibel Island, Florida, where he was a light-tackle fishing guide for many years, and spends much of his free time windsurfing, playing baseball, and hanging out at Doc Ford’s Rum Bar.

INTERESTED IN TRUE STORIES BY RANDY

THAT SHAPED DOC FORD AND TOMLINSON?

Randy presents a collection of his most prized non-fiction essays on his life as a world traveller, South West Florida fishing guide, and novelist. He takes us with him as he is stabbed in Peru, held at gunpoint by Mexican Federales, shepherding Cuban refugees from Mariel Harbor, and into his home with his "Gator". Randy Wayne White is the author of Twenty Doc Ford novels -- most recently Night Vision, Chasing Midnight, and Night Moves -- and four nonfiction collections -- Batfishing in the Rainforest, The Sharks of Lake Nicaragua, Last Flight Out, and An American Traveler. PLEASE NOTE:  Many (but not all) of the stories in Doc Ford Country can be found in Batfishing in the Rainforest, with six new Doc Ford themed additions.
